Umbonambi Primary School Netball National Championship - 2023
CTM proudly congratulates the remarkable Under 12 and Under 13 Netball teams of Umbonambi Primary School. These young athletes showed true talent and determination during the Netball National Championship. From August 8th to 10th, 2023, the U12 girls came in 3rd place winning a bronze medal, whilst the U13 girls took 5th place out of 56 schools. CTM partnered with the Italtile & Ceramic Foundation and Dreamfields Project in supporting these young talents on their journey. In the words of Captain Akhona Mhlongo, "We extend our gratitude to CTM Empangeni Store, Italtile Foundation, and Dreamfields for believing in us, even in the depths of rural KZN. Your unwavering support has propelled us forward when the path seemed challenging.
CTM Dignity Drive Project - May 2023
In 2017, the CTM Dignity Drive Project was established to provide sanitary pads to young girls attending school. The Bajabulile Primary School in Esikhawini, near Empangeni, was chosen for the donation of 400 reusable sanitary pads to girls in grades 4, 5, 6 and 7.
On May 5, 2023, Landiwe Ngubo and the team distributed the pads, bringing joy to the girls and a sense of accomplishment for the group.
CTM Champions Cup - March 2022
In March 2022, CTM hosted the sixth annual Champions Cup at the CTM Sports Field in Meadowlands, Soweto, after a two-year break due to the pandemic.
The aim of this tournament is to promote health and fitness among the youth and raise awareness of the availability of the CTM Sports Field for use by the community.
Equally importantly, the event is centred around the opportunity for the victorious schools to win a R15 000 donation to address a critical need in their respective schools. Sixteen schools from the neighbouring communities participated in this year’s tournament.
Participants from all 16 schools received new sports kits, shoes and related equipment. For the games, the schools were grouped into four categories: primary and high school netball and primary and high school soccer.
The competition commenced on 14 February 2022, with a week of play-off matches. The two winners of each category earned themselves a place in the final event.
On 5 March, the eight remaining schools competed fiercely for their awards, resulting in victories for Tswelelang Primary School, Boikanyo Primary School (Defending Champions), Dr Beyers Naude Secondary, and Kwadedangendlale High School.
The top players in the respective sporting codes also received individual prizes in recognition of their exceptional achievement.
Overall, a memorable, fun day was enjoyed by everyone involved.
School shoes for disadvantaged learners - May 2022
Large numbers of learners from disadvantaged homes in this country don’t have appropriate shoes to wear to school.
In an endeavour to restore these children’s dignity and confidence, the CTM team in Limpopo identified a school they felt could benefit from a donation of school shoes.
The CTM team visited Khunda Primary School in Louis Trichardt to donate school shoes, socks and school bags to the 46 learners enrolled at the school. The school was extremely grateful for the assistance received for the learners.
CTM Dignity Drive Project - August 2022
As we wrapped up Women’s Month, representatives from our CTM store in Port Elizabeth visited Gelvandale High School to donate sanitary pads to all the girls from Grades 8 to 12.
With the assistance of our implementation partner, all the girls received reusable sanitary pads and were given a talk on menstrual health and the reproductive system.
Through our CTM Dignity Drive, our goal is to enable these girls to continue their education without the burden of hygiene risks, discomfort or the loss of dignity.
