There is nothing worse then being in the middle of a fixer-upper and having to take a break to head down to the hardware store to buy something you’ve forgotten.

  • Major tools you’ll need for any tiling job include a tile cutter, wet saw, angle grinder, tile nipper, rubber mallet, and a trowel.
  • You will need to correct number of tiles, with a few extra on standby for when breakages occur
  • Materials like thin-set, adhesive, grout, caulk, and spacers
  • A range of cloths and sponges

What to Put Down Under Tile in a Bathroom Floor?

Making sure you have the right base on which to tile can mean the difference between a well-laid floor and a poorly laid one. Floor preparation in a bathroom ceramic floor tile project is a very important step to complete before tiling can begin. No matter what type of subfloor you’ll be tiling on (be it concrete or existing tile) always make sure that the flooring is level. If your flooring base is uneven, consider first applying a self-levelling screed onto the floor to get an even base on which to work.

The Different Ways to Tile a Bathroom Floor with Ceramic Tiles

There are a variety of different patterns to use when tiling. Make sure you’ve chosen the design you want before you begin to avoid getting confused or changing your mind in the middle. Draw a tile map or plan of how you are going to lay the tiles out before you begin.

  • Always start with the centre tile and tile outward from there. Never start from the outside in.
  • Always use a thin layer of thin-set under the ceramic tile and make sure every inch of the underneath of the tile is covered before placing it down, gently.
  • Use a rubber mallet, to gently tap the tile down in place. Never use a steel hammer for this job.
  • Insert spacers between every tile to allow for enough space for grout to be laid in.
  • Use tile cutter, wet saw, and nipper to cut the tiles toward the outside into the perfect shape – around areas like toilets, baths, drains, or against walls and doors.
  • Allow the tiles to set in place for a few hours before grouting.
  • Apply a generous amount of grout onto the floor using a sweeping, circular motion.
  • Allow the grout to dry slightly before cleaning off the haze from the tile surface.

Why you Should Consider Using Ceramic Floor Tiles in your Bathroom?

When it comes to bathroom flooring tiles, ceramics are an excellent choice. Ceramic floor tiles offer a variety of benefits for a wet, high-traffic area like the bathroom including:

  • Ceramics are easy to keep clean and can be sanitised daily without damage
  • Ceramics are non-slip by nature and are water-resistant
  • They are hard-wearing and can withstand a high amount of foot traffic daily
  • Ceramics come in a variety of styles and colours, making them a very trendy choice for modern bathrooms.
