In this article, we’ll explore the latest bathroom tile trends that are a little off the wall (excuse the pun) and will make your bathroom shine with trendy delight.

The Different Tile Trends You Should Consider for your Bathroom

If you’re up for the design challenge of creating a bathroom space that pops, then one of these 2022 trends are going to be for you. From laying your subway tiles in new, exciting patterns to creating a textured look with pebbles, find your favourite trend in bathroom tile design today.

Floor-to-Ceiling Fantasy

Tiling a bathroom in floor-to-ceiling tiles, brings a sense of luxurious fantasy and space to a bathroom. There a variety of takes on this trend including using the same tile from the floor and up the walls to the ceiling. Other trends include using the same tile but in different patterns on the floor then on the walls. Using floor-to-ceiling tiles is not only a beautiful style choice but it can also be a very cost-effective decision too because you will be able to tile the entire space and save on money by being able to buy in bulk.

Subway in a New Way

Subway tiles are a popular choice for bathroom designers throughout the world, including here in South Africa. But why not consider playing with the standard layout of subway tiles to bring that wow-factor to your bathroom? Laying subway tiles in a new pattern is a bathroom tile trend that is very popular this year. The most popular subway brick patterns include:

  • Stacked
  • Running Bond
  • Herringbone
  • Chevron
  • Basketweave

Go Dark For Drama

Nothing says drama quite like a pop of dark colour in a bathroom. Choosing to tile a feature wall, like a wall in a shower, or behind a bath, or even an entire floor space in a dark, dramatic colour can bring depth and interest into the space. Current bathroom tile trends in terms of colours to choose from for this include dramatic blacks, deep greens, metallic silvers, and luscious golds.

Add Patterns To Make It Pop

Many DIY renovators make the mistake of thinking that patterned tiles in the bathroom can make the space appear cluttered or small. The opposite is in fact true, when you choose the right type of pattern for the space. For small, narrow bathrooms a décor tile in shades of white or grey can help the space appear bigger and airier. For a larger space, you can get creative with your pattern choice and can choose larger tiles with bolder prints or patterns to make the space pop!

Soft Pebbles for Beauty

Pebbles tiles have long been a popular choice for bathrooms and this year is no exception. Using a pebbled tile, especially in wet areas like shower floors, shower walls, and around bathtubs can bring a sense of tranquil beauty to a space. Pebbled tiles also bring depth and character to a bathroom especially when paired with other dramatic colours and tile patterns. Whether you want to create a beachy, neutral bathroom with light pebbled tiles or a bold, colourful bathroom with dark grey or black pebbles, the sky is the limit when using this kind of textured tile.

What Type of Tile Trends Can Make a Bathroom Look Bigger?

Making a bathroom appear bigger has long been a need for many bathroom renovators. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a large bathroom area but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to make a smaller bathroom look bigger. There are two main design hacks to use in order to make a small space appear larger, namely:

  • Use Large Format Tiles – using large format tiles, which are tiles that are large in size (between 600mm and 1200mm wide), will enable a space to appear bigger because it creates a sense of space and length in a room. With large format tiles there are less grout lines which helps the view of the room expand, making it appear larger.
  • Use White or Light Tiles – generally lighter or white tiles make a space seem more open, and thus bigger. Lighter tiles can, again, bring the eye out, allowing more light into a space and giving it the appearance of being larger.
